i listened to this podcast with Marisa Silver in which she discusses her inspiration by an iconic 1936 photograph of a migrant mother. this image drives her entire novel. this process of image/inspiration is thought provoking for me, as i use images in my writing and often start with a particular image or object in mind.
i use a story board of words and images and gather specific photos where i can. recently, i travelled to my hometown and took a series of photos that will inform my next collection of shorts. the connection i felt when taking these photos stirred me, gave me emotional pause. it’s an interesting experience to gather the images and i find the (emotional) tangents i go on intriguing.
do you take photos?
