i have a story upcoming in TNQ. it’s called “the paradise motel” and it’s about a teenaged girl named Marty who works in a cleaning crew at, you guessed it, the paradise motel. i’m slowly building a MS of linked shorts about teenaged girls that’s set in the 70s.
i’m trying to give my stories over to the girls and women these days, my response to ‘me too’. i’m tired of male-centering. it’s well past time to focus in on lived experiences and god knows, teenaged girls deserve attention–they didn’t get it in the 70s, that’s for sure. when i think back to some of the girls i’ve known, myself included, and our lives, it’s a lot to take in.
PS the occasional publication tells me i’m still in the game.
PPS because writers wonder. writing in isolation, etc. etc.
