it’s may so that means it’s short story month, the BEST month of all.
right now i’m packing up my house to move, and that means culling my books in an effort at downsizing. it’s a difficult job because i view my books as friends, and it’s hard to give your friends away.
today i came across the boxes with my short story library and immediately felt happy. why? i love my short story collection of books. i feel better when they’re around me and for the past three years, they’ve hidden in boxes. soon i will liberate them in my new house.
but i browsed through them and remembered some of the stories, as well as the structure of some of the collections. i like a collection to have a cohesive arc and purpose, i do. i’m not fond of haphazard collections created from whatever a writer finished in the past 10 years. it’s too diffuse for me. and not all stories belong together. for these reasons i like a pointed collection.
this may i celebrate all the short story collections in my library.
